Battlefield 6: PC Performance Guide to Fix Stuttering, High CPU Usage, and Crashes

Published October 12, 2025

Struggling with lag, microstutters, high CPU usage, or even game-crashing BSODs in Battlefield 6? Bet. The Frostbite engine can be a beast, but don’t sweat it. This guide is your one-stop shop for all the best community-tested fixes to get your game running smoothly.

Fixing Performance Issues on PC.

Quick Fixes for Microstutters & Smoothness

Before we get into the heavy-duty fixes, let’s start with some quick and easy tweaks that can have a huge impact on microstutters and overall game feel.

Disable the HD Texture Pack

This is the number one fix for stuttering, even on high-end GPUs. The HD texture pack is a massive 21GB download that eats up a ton of VRAM, and disabling it can make your game feel way smoother.

  1. In your Steam Library, right-click on Battlefield 6.
  2. Go to Properties.
  3. Navigate to the DLC tab.
  4. Uncheck the box next to the HD Texture Pack. Steam will then uninstall the files.

Check Your REBAR / SAM Settings

Resizable BAR (REBAR) for NVIDIA and Smart Access Memory (SAM) for AMD can be a mixed bag. For some players, it boosts FPS but introduces more stutter. For others, it improves smoothness.

The only way to know is to test it yourself. Try playing with it enabled and disabled in your BIOS to see which setting gives you better and more stable performance.

How to Fix High CPU Usage (The User.cfg Method)

Is Battlefield 6 eating up 80-100% of your CPU? This is a classic issue with Frostbite games. The fix is to create a custom config file that tells the game exactly how many of your CPU’s cores and threads to use.

Step 1: Find your CPU Cores and Threads You need to know your processor’s specs first.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
  2. Go to the Performance tab and click on CPU.
  3. Look on the bottom-right for “Cores” and “Logical processors” (this is your thread count). Write these two numbers down.

Step 2: Create the User.cfg File

  1. Open Notepad.
  2. Copy and paste the following five lines into the empty file:Thread.ProcessorCount 8 Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8 Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0 Thread.JobThreadPriority 0 GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16
  3. This is the most important part: Replace the numbers with your own CPU’s numbers.
    • The first two lines (Thread.ProcessorCount and Thread.MaxProcessorCount) should be your number of Cores.
    • The last line (GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount) should be your number of Logical processors (threads).

Step 3: Save the File in the Game Directory

  1. In Notepad, go to File -> Save As.
  2. In the “Save as type” dropdown, change it to “All Files.”
  3. Name the file User.cfg.
  4. Save the file directly into your Battlefield 6 installation folder. To find it, right-click the game in Steam -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Browse.

Launch the game, and you should see a massive drop in CPU usage.

The Ultimate BSOD Fix (ASUS Z490/Z790 Motherboards)

If you’re getting a random Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) when loading into a match, you’re not alone. This is a known issue for players with ASUS Prime Z490-P or Z790-P motherboards, especially with Intel 10th and 13th Gen CPUs.

The problem is caused by your BIOS and the Intel Management Engine (ME) firmware being out of sync. You need to update both.

Step 1: Update Your Motherboard’s BIOS Firmware

  1. Go to the official support Page for your exact motherboard model.
  2. Download the latest BIOS file (it will be a .CAP file).
  3. Copy that file to an empty USB stick.
  4. Reboot your PC and press Del or F2 repeatedly as it starts to enter the BIOS menu.
  5. Find and open the “EZ Flash Utility.”
  6. Select the BIOS file from your USB and start the update.
  7. CRITICAL: Do not turn off your PC during this process. It will restart on its own.

Step 2: Update the Intel ME Driver

  1. On the same ASUS Support Page, download the latest Intel ME Driver.
  2. Extract the files and run the installer (.exe).
  3. Reboot your PC when it’s finished.

Step 3: Update the Intel ME Firmware

  1. Go back to the support page and download the Intel ME Firmware Update Tool.
  2. Close all background programs (Steam, Discord, browsers, etc.).
  3. Right-click the update tool and select “Run as administrator.”
  4. Be patient; it might look like it’s frozen for a few minutes. Let it finish, and then reboot your PC one last time.

This three-step process has been confirmed to fix the BSOD issue for about 90% of affected players.

Fix Blown-Out Whites and Brightness (HDR Only)

If the game looks way too bright and you can’t see outside of buildings, it’s an HDR bug. Here’s the quick fix:

  1. Before you launch Battlefield 6, press Windows + Alt + B on your keyboard. This will temporarily turn off HDR.
  2. Start the game.
  3. Once you’re at the main menu, press Windows + Alt + B again to turn HDR back on.

The lighting should now be fixed for your current play session. You’ll need to do this every time you launch the game until DICE patches it.
