Escape From Duckov – Fishing Tips for Beginners

Published October 18, 2025

Fishing is a key survival skill in Escape From Duckov, but many new players or those caught up in combat might miss the basics. Here’s a straightforward guide to fishing that will help you get the hang of it quickly.

What You Need for Fishing

Fishing requires bait. You can craft normal bait at a workbench using 3 worms and 2 cookies. Alternatively, after completing a certain number of fishing quests (Fish King’s Road 3), you can buy bait from the fishing shop. Worms are found by equipping a shovel in your backpack and digging at special points on the map, yielding 1 to 3 worms each time. Cookies can be bought from vending machines that refresh every 5 minutes, two at a time. It’s a good habit to buy cookies every time you get back home.

How to Fish

Equip a fishing rod with bait attached as an accessory. Go to fixed fishing spots on the map and press F to enter fishing mode. When a fish bites, an exclamation mark “!” appears next to the rod. About 1 second later, a quick time event (QTE) starts with an outer and inner circle shrinking. Press space exactly when both circles overlap to catch the fish. If you miss, bait will be deducted and the catch fails. Early on, bait is hard to get and expensive to lose.

Helpful Tips

Because bait is scarce early on and crafting is complex, consider installing a fishing mod or use Cheat Engine (CE) to slow down the game speed to make fishing easier. Near fishing spots, you’ll find fishing notes with weather hints and recommended bait for certain fish. For example, the white-backed fish needed in Fish King’s Road 3 only appears on rainy days. Some unusual items like R6 batteries, lighters, and toilet cleaner can also work as bait for specific catches.

These basics should have you fishing like a pro in no time. Good luck out there!
