Everything is Crab – How to Kill Crabtaur
Unlocking the Opportunistic achievement in Everything is Crab requires you to stop being the aggressor and start being the matador. The goal is to ensure the Crabtaur dies specifically from collision damage rather than your own direct attacks.
The Game Plan
Successfully baiting a Crabtaur into a fatal crash involves three main steps:
- Soften Him Up: You must whittle down the Crabtaur’s health first. A full-health boss won’t die from a single collision, so get him down to a sliver of HP before attempting the stunt.
- Pick Your Battlefield: Find a location with a high density of trees or rocks. Having multiple objects to “bounce” between makes it much easier to lure him into a successful charge.
- Clear the Interference: Make sure there are no other animals or enemies in the immediate vicinity. Mobs like “beeweres” can accidentally kill the boss with poison clouds or stray hits, which will void the achievement.
What Counts as a “Crash”?
Not every wall is created equal in the world of crab-based physics:
- Valid Obstacles: Environmental objects like trees, large rocks, and certain Points of Interest (POIs) will trigger the kill.
- Invalid Obstacles: Crashing the Crabtaur into the arena sides will not work for this achievement.
- Cactus Bonus: In some versions of the game, cactus trees have base contact damage, which can provide a helpful extra bit of damage upon impact.
Pro Tips for Success
Watch Your Gear: Avoid using “spikes” or “turtle down” defensive abilities. If the Crabtaur dies because he hit you and took reactive damage, the game may not count it as an environmental crash.
- The Fleeing Kill: The achievement can also trigger if the Crabtaur attempts to run away from the fight and accidentally collides with an object like a tree while fleeing.
- Avoid Poison: Ensure you are not using any poison-based gear, as a tick of poison damage might steal the kill mid-charge.
- Positioning: Stand directly in front of a tree and wait for the charge animation to start, then dodge at the very last second to ensure he has no time to course-correct.
