There is nothing quite as soul-crushing as putting a few solid hours into a new game, grinding out those early levels, only to boot it up later and realize your save file has completely vanished.

Unfortunately, if you are currently playing Far Far West on the Steam Deck, you might run into this exact nightmare. A recent thread on the game’s Steam General Discussions highlighted a critical bug with cloud synchronization, and if you are playing on Valve’s handheld, you need to be aware of it before you lose your progress.


The Issue: Disappearing Save Files on Deck

The bug was recently brought to light by a player who logged a standard 3-hour session on their Steam Deck. When they booted the game back up later, their progress was entirely gone.

To make matters worse, this bug doesn’t just fail to upload to the Steam Cloud—it also seems to wipe the local backups. When the player tried to load a backup, the only files available were a few Level 1 starter saves, meaning three hours of grinding were permanently lost.

“Really sorry about this. We’re currently investigating an issue causing some Steam Deck players to lose their progress.
