100% Achievement Guide – FINAL FANTASY TACTICS – The Ivalice Chronicles
Notes on Missables
After finishing the game at 100%, I found the following to be missable:
- A Thickening of the Plot & Secrets Beneath Goug: I THINK these are missable if you don’t recruit Mustadio. If anyone can confirm, please let me know.
- Master of All Trades: If you are aiming to do this with Ramza, you’ll need to learn Ultima on his Gallant Knight job on top of the Zodiark Summoner ability. The easiest way to learn Ultima is to equip a Ribbon, or a combination of a Jade Armlet + a Jujutsu Gi, to force Celia to cast Ultima on him during the Limberry Castle Gate battle. If you miss this opportunity, there are other chances to obtain it. The most repeatable, albeit random, battle to learn Ultima comes after you complete Midlight’s Deep. The END floor features separate random encounters with enemies equipped with the Ultima and Zodiark abilities. HUGE thanks to Aidski for providing this tip.
Story Progression
These achievements are unlocked as you progress through the main story and related events.
- In Pursuit of the Truth: Complete the prologue.
- The Meager: Complete Chapter 1, “The Meager.”
- The Manipulative & the Subservient: Complete Chapter 2, “The Manipulative & the Subservient.”
- The Valiant: Complete Chapter 3, “The Valiant.”
- In the Name of Love: Complete Chapter 4, “In the Name of Love.”
There is no point of no return in Chapter 4. Once you finish the Sequential Battle at Orbonne Monastery, you can resume from the point immediately prior to the final series of battles.
Story Events/Lore
- Amateur Historian: Read about five different people in the Encyclopedia section of the Chronicle. You’ll get access to the Chronicle and Encyclopedia after the 2nd battle at The Magick City of Gariland. Go to the Main Menu → Chronicle → Encyclopedia and read any 5 entries under “Persons”.
- A Thickening of the Plot: Awarded for watching the scene “Seekers of the Stone” in the Events section of the Chronicle. This one becomes available under Menu → Chronicle → Events around the time you can recruit Mustadio.
- Secrets Beneath Goug: Awarded for watching the scene “The Metallic Sphere.” You can view this under Menu → Chronicle → Events at the start of Chapter 4 if Mustadio is in your squad. Head to Goug to trigger this story event.
- The Scriptures of Germonique: Awarded for reading the Scriptures of Germonique to the end in the Reading Materials section of the Chronicle. This lengthy text becomes available to read under Menu → Chronicle → Reading Materials sometime just before your first encounter with Marach.
Character & Job Progression
These achievements are related to leveling up, learning abilities, and mastering jobs for your party members.
- Foundational Learning: Learn an ability with a party member.
- A New Path: Change the job of a party member.
- Succession of Power: Acquire an ability from a crystal.
- Great Expectations: Recruit a new party member from the warriors’ guild.
- Dependable Fighters: Reach level 30 or above with five different party members.
- Proven Veterans: Awarded for reaching level 40 or above with five party members.
- Seasoned Warrior: Awarded for reaching level 50 with Ramza.
- Expert in One Field: Learn all the abilities of a single job with one party member.
- Master of All Trades: Awarded for learning all the abilities of every job with one party member. As mentioned at the start of this guide, if you are aiming to do this with Ramza, you’ll need to learn Ultima on his Gallant Knight job on top of the Zodiark Summoner ability. The easiest way to learn Ultima is to equip a Ribbon (Common Processed item from Wild Board), or a combination of a Jade Armlet + a Jujutsu Gi, to force Celia to cast Ultima on him during the Limberry Castle Gate battle. If you miss this opportunity, you can find a repeatable, albeit random battle on the Midlight’s Deep END floor, which features separate random encounters featuring enemies equipped with the Ultima and Zodiark abilities. HUGE thanks to Aidski for providing this tip.
JP Farming Notes/Tips
For the purpose of this section, we’ll treat Job Points (JP) and Job EXP as one and the same. The amount of JP and Job EXP gained is always equal. To fully master a job, you need enough JP to learn all skills in that job’s ability tree. More often than not, you’ll reach Job Level 8 (the MAX Job Level for all jobs except Mime) before you can fully master a job.
Factors Influencing Job Point (JP) Gain
- Character Level: Your character’s overall level directly impacts the amount of Job Points (JP) earned. Higher-level characters will receive a greater JP reward from battles and other activities.
- Job Level: Each job progresses from level 1 to 8. The higher the level of your current job, the more JP you will accumulate for each action taken.
- Accessory (Ring of Aptitude): This exclusive accessory, available only with the Digital Deluxe Edition, provides a slight boost to JP acquisition. While helpful for speeding up progression, it is not essential to master all jobs.
Does every action earn JP?
Nearly every action taken will provide JP. Certain exceptions apply such as:
- Using Chakra when there is no HP or MP to heal.
- Using Cure on a unit with full health.
- Using Purification when there are no negative status effects to remove.
- Any action that misses its target will not grant JP (Missing a Steal Attempt, Getting your attack Parried, etc.)
- Using Bravery/Faith/Speed/Power/etc buffs on units that have those stats maxed out. This is why you stop gaining JP when using Focus/Tailwind on units that already have 99 Physical Attack or Speed.
- And other similar actions that don’t result in doing anything.
Core Strategies for Farming JP
The key to efficient JP farming is to create a situation where you can perform endless actions in a single battle without risk.
The “Single Enemy” Method This is the most basic method. The goal is to isolate and surround a single enemy, rendering it harmless and turning it into a “training dummy” for your party.
- Enter a random battle, preferably in an early-game area like Mandalia Plains.
- Defeat all enemies except for one. The ideal candidate is a weak, non-threatening enemy, such as a Goblin.
- Surround it so you can end the battle at your own discretion.
- Begin farming JP safely by using a non-lethal move of your choice on yourself, the enemy, or your other units. The most common choices for this are the Squire’s Focus & Throw Stone. Regular attacks also work if you have sustain (Cura, Chakra, etc.) to prevent the battle from ending prematurely.
The JP “Factory” Loop
- Squire’s “Focus”: This is one of the best JP-generating actions. It costs 0 MP, never misses, and can be used until you max out your Physical Attack at 99. 90+ actions are usually adequate to master or nearly master almost all jobs.
- The “Slap” Method: Have your characters attack each other. This generates JP for their current job. You can then have a Monk or White Mage heal the damage, generating JP for their job as well. This creates a self-sustaining loop.
- Stat Buffs/Debuffs: Casting beneficial spells like Protect or Shell on allies, or harmless debuffs on your neutralized enemy, also generates JP for the caster’s job.
Understanding JP Spillover This mechanic is crucial for leveling your entire party efficiently. When a unit performs an action and earns JP:
- They receive 100% of the JP for their current job.
- All other allied units deployed in the same battle receive a percentage of that JP for their current jobs.
Example: A Samurai equipped with Fundaments uses Focus and earns 50 JP. Other units deployed in the same battle will earn a percentage of that 50 JP as spillover towards their own Samurai job progression.
My Setup
- 1 Martial Arts User
- 4 Fundaments Users
Note that everyone has JP Boost and Speed Surge equipped.
- Defeat all enemies except for a lone Goblin.
- Group all units together while positioning the Martial Arts user in the middle.
- Martial Arts user spams Cyclone while the others use regular attacks or Throw Stone on each other. All of these attacks will increase your team’s speed. If the Martial Arts user is the slowest of the bunch due to being an Arithmetician, it’s a good idea for everyone to attack them first to bring their speed up to par via Speed Surge.
- Top up everyone’s HP by using Chakra.
I like this method because slowing down an enemy with Rend Speed is less Reliable than increasing your own speed using Speed Surge.
Poaching and Exploration
These achievements are for engaging with some features and explorable areas in the world of Ivalice.
- Finders Keepers: Obtain a buried item during battle. To unearth buried treasure, the character stepping on a treasure tile needs to either (a) set Chemist as their current job or (b) equip Treasure Hunter Movement-type ability from the Chemist ability tree. Since this guide does not feature treasure maps, please use another reference to pick up one of the many treasures available Finders Keepers achievement. Alternatively, you can check my BBCode tables/maps for Midlight’s Deep below (which show treasure locations).
- Inn Demand Worker: Take on an errand at a tavern. Errands become available at the tavern in Chapter 2. The achievement triggers once you dispatch a team to take care of an Errand.
- Pleased to Meet You: Hatch a creature egg. Whenever you Recruit, Entice, or Tame a creature-class unit, they will automatically lay eggs that are displayed under your unit roster as you move around the map. They will hatch automatically as you continue to move.
- The Poacher’s Way: Successfully use “Poach” five times. Poach is a Support-type ability from the Thief’s ability tree. It will only work if the killing blow is a normal attack.
- Welcome, Poacher: Use the services of a poachers’ den. The Poacher’s Den becomes available at the start of Chapter 3 and can be accessed in some major towns/cities. As part of the introduction to the feature, you are given a Choboco carcass for free. This achievement is a freebie.
- Rare Wares: Have ten different items produced at a poachers’ den that cannot be purchased from outfitters. See the Breeding for Rare Wares subsection below on some of the different items you can produce at a Poacher’s Den. I’m only listing the easiest and most convenient ones to Poach.
- Ruler of the Abyss: Awarded for completing all levels of Midlight’s Deep. See the Midlight’s Deep Maps subsection below for maps relating to the 10 floors of this dungeon.
Breeding for Rare Wares
Most Convenient Creatures to Process
The table below consists of the most convenient creatures to breed and poach in relation to the achievement. I bolded all mentions of Pigs because they are absolutely worth reloading the game for just to tame and breed one early. There are a few more not listed here, but you won’t find them until very late into this version of the game. Some creatures serve a dual purpose (Sehkret & Wild Boar) while others are quick and easy (Swine) to add to the 10 items you need for the Rare Wares achievement. I ~~crossed out~~ the common items related to these creatures that don’t count:
| Name | Tier 1 Variant (For Breeding) | Common Item | Rare Item |
| Red Chocobo | Chocobo | ~~Remedy~~ | Barette |
| Plague Horror | Floating Eye | ~~Yagyu Darkrood~~ | Zwill Straightblade |
| Sehkret | Wisenkin | Holy Lance | Ivory Pole |
| Greater Malboro | Malboro | Elixir | Omnilex |
| Dryad | Dryad | ~~Eye Drops~~ | Healing Staff |
| Treant | Dryad | Gold Staff | Faerie Harp |
| Elder Treant | Dryad | Protect Ring | Defender |
| Pig | Pig | ~~Maiden’s Kiss~~ | Cachusha |
| Swine | Pig | Chantage | Nagnarock |
| Wild Boar | Pig | Ribbon | Fallingstar Bag |
Where can I find a Pig? A Pig has a chance to appear during your story battle at Tchigolith Fenlands. Once you have prepared Orator(s) equipped with Entice, I strongly recommend you keep reloading this story battle until you get a Pig to appear. Just taming one of these Pigs for breeding will set you up for 5/10 of the items needed for Rare Wares.
Where can I find X/Y/Z?
- Pig – See above.
- Wild Boar – Can only be obtained through breeding.
- Floating Eye – Can appear in Mandalia Plains. It may be more common elsewhere.
- Malboro – Can appear in Mandalia Plains. It may be more common elsewhere.
- Wisenkin – Can appear in Zeklaus Desert. It may be more common elsewhere.
How do I breed for poaching?
- Entice the tier 1 variant (preferably) of the creature you want to breed. If you want to breed a Sehkret, for example, it’s easier to entice/tame a Wisenkin. Tier 3 variants typically deal more damage than their weaker counterparts.
- Entice the aforementioned creature.
- Make sure there’s space in your roster for eggs.
- Walk back and forth on the map until you get your desired egg(s).
- Once hatched, bring 2-3 creatures as your teammate in an easy random battle along with characters that can self-sustain (e.g., Ninjas with Martial Arts and Poach).
- Defeat the creatures you brought along with regular attacks to poach until satisfied.
It’s recommended that you only breed one type of creature at a time so that you can get targeted eggs. It’s also recommended that you release creatures once you’re done breeding and poaching them to reduce roster management and make room for targeted breeding.
How do I know if a processed item counts towards the Rare Wares Achievement? You can tell a processed item counts towards the achievement by looking to the right of the item name. If it does, a creature-shaped icon will be present, indicating that you cannot purchase the item at an Outfitter.
Other Notes on Taming/Breeding Sehkret, Swine, and Wild Boar all have 2 items (common and rare) that count towards this achievement. The same applies for Great Malboro, but they’re so tanky while doing less damage relative to the other 3 that it’s annoying to bring them into battle just to poach.

A Calculated Attack
A controlled environment is recommended for this achievement. Without it, you’ll be relying on a bit of luck. I highly recommend subscribing to J7Jase on YouTube and aiming for this achievement via the Grogh Heights Rare Battle he shared.
Completionist
These achievements are for those who aim to complete specific challenges and collections fully.
- Master Adventurer: Awarded for earning the title of Master Adventurer.
- Master Treasure Hunter: Awarded for earning the title of Master Treasure Hunter. You will automatically get both achievements above in pursuit of all errands.
- Knight Errand of Ivalice: Achieve great success in every errand. See the Knight Errand of Ivalice subsection below for all errands and other notes on timing/temporary restrictions.
Important Note for the Completionist Achievement
- The Brave, the Forgotten: Uncover every truth that had gone untold. This achievement unlocks only when the in-game counter in your Akademy Reports registers that all other achievements have been completed. It relies on the in-game list, not your Steam profile.
If, for some reason, you are in a losing situation in the same battle you earned an in-combat achievement, I’m 99% sure you can just hit retry and complete the battle to still get credited for it. I was able to keep A Calculated Attack this way by hitting Retry (without going back to Formation setup) and completing the battle.
Knight Errand of Ivalice 1/2
Are Errands Missable? No, but you temporarily lose access to certain towns and errands as you complete the story (locked routes). If you’re aiming for 100% completion, the best rule of thumb is to clear your errand list before tackling the next major story beat.
Don’t worry about getting accidentally locked into a point of no return—the game always lets you back out of sequential battles before the first fight. This gives you a perfect opportunity to pause, check the world map, and finish any errands you might have missed.
What does ‘Great Success’ mean? Is it important? A “Great Success” is equivalent to succeeding in an errand. There is no distinction. The achievement description isn’t quite clear on that, so you don’t need to worry about aiming for a higher tier of results.
Errand Strategy for 100% Achievements For an efficient path to 100% achievements, it’s best to ignore older guide recommendations about Best Job and Skill Saver recommendations. Instead, use all 96 errands as a consistent source of Job Points (JP) for your 3-4 most-used generic units. This approach significantly reduces the time needed to master tedious jobs with low base Speed, such as Arithmetician.
Don’t worry about potential failures; there are no permanent consequences. A failed errand will simply reappear in the same location after a month of in-game time has passed, which you can speed through by traveling back and forth between two towns.
