Ghost of Yōtei – How to Get 3 Secret Items on Mount Yote
This is your ultimate guide to getting three of the most busted secret items in the early hours of Ghost of Yōtei. We’ll show you how to climb Mount Yote to get the Starlight Abyss Katana, two powerful charms, and a free skill point.
Aight, so you just started your journey in Ghost of Yōtei and you’re looking for an edge. What if I told you that you can get one of the sickest katanas in the game, two incredibly powerful and upgradeable charms, and a free skill point, all within the first couple of hours?
Bet. All you have to do is make the epic climb to the top of Mount Yote, that massive snow-capped mountain that’s in the background of basically the entire game. This guide will give you the full, step-by-step walkthrough for the entire climb and show you exactly where to find all the goodies at the top.
The Rewards: Why You Should Make the Climb
This isn’t just a climb for the vibes (though the views are insane). The loot you get at the top is seriously OP for the early game.
- The Mother and Father Charms: These are two special charms that will serve you well for your entire playthrough. The Father charm restores health on a perfect parry, and the Mother charm increases arrow damage. Best of all, they are upgradeable, and you don’t even need to have them equipped for them to level up as you play.
- The Starlight Abyss Katana: No cap, this is one of the best-looking sword kits in the game. It has a starry night sky effect on the blade and a moon on the hilt. It’s the ultimate early-game drip.
- A Free Skill Point: At the very top, you’ll find an Altar of Reflection that grants you a free skill point. Getting an extra skill point early on is a massive advantage, letting you unlock game-changing abilities like Roll or Chain Assassination way sooner.
The Climb: A Step-by-Step Walkthrough to the Summit
Ready for an adventure? Let’s get to climbing.

Getting Started
First, you need to head to the base of Mount Yote in the Yotei Grasslands, the game’s starting area. Look for a series of red Torii gates that mark the entrance to the shrine path. This is where your journey begins.
The Main Ascent
The climb is a long and tricky platforming challenge with a ton of climbing, jumping, and grappling. Just follow these steps, and you’ll be fine.
- Follow the path up through the Torii gates. You’ll quickly come to a section with some jumps and your first grapple point. Look for the red cloths—they’re your visual cue for a grapple point.
- You’ll pass through another Torii gate that will trigger a short loading screen, taking you to the main Mount Yote area.
- Hang a left and follow the path. Keep an eye out for materials like flowers and bamboo along the way.
- Get ready for your first big combo: you’ll need to Jump -> Slide -> Jump again -> and Grapple (R2) to swing across a gap. Get used to this; you’ll be doing it a lot.
- Continue up the stairs and past the small shrines. You’ll come to a broken bridge where you need to jump and grapple up.
- Next up is a scary-looking double-grapple section over a huge drop. Just jump towards the rubble and hit R2 to grapple onto the first rope, then swing and repeat for the second.
- Keep following the path, which involves another big cliff climb with multiple grapple points. Run across a log, jump off, and grapple up.
- You’ll reach a small hut. Past that, you’ll cross another rope and have to jump onto a branch, then a platform, and then swing across another rope.
- Here comes another tricky part. After the rope, you’ll land on a rock. Climb to the highest point and get ready for a big leap of faith onto a branch to your left. From that branch, make another jump to the platform to get across.
- Follow the path to the left until you see another branch sticking out. Use it to cross the gap, and then carefully land on the snowy platform below.
- We’re almost there. The final challenge is a slippery ice slope. You have to slide down, and right at the end, you need to manually jump and then immediately grapple (R2) to catch the rope above you.
After that, it’s just a few more climbs and one last grapple. Squeeze through the gap at the top, and you’ve made it.
You’ve Made It: Cashing in at the Summit
You’re at the top of the world. Now it’s time to get your loot.
- 1. Getting the Charms: From the spot where you squeeze through the gap, head to the right and follow the path through the Torii gates. You’ll have to do a few more jumps. One of them is pretty tricky, but don’t worry if you fall—the game will respawn you right where you need to be to try again. Keep heading up, and you’ll find a large altar. Pray at it to receive the Mother and Father charms.
- 2. Getting the Katana: Now, head back to where you started and go across to the other side of the summit. Run through the snow, staying on the peak. In the distance, you’ll see a shrine with a big flag. This is the Shrine of the Fallen. Run up to it, and you’ll find the Starlight Abyss Katana leaning against it.
- 3. Getting the Skill Point: The last item is the easiest to get. From the peak, just look down into the large, snowy crater in the middle of the mountaintop. Jump down into it. At the bottom, you’ll find an Altar of Reflection. Pray at it to claim your free skill point.

And that’s it! To get down, you can either find the log with a grapple point for a quick descent, or just open your map and fast travel away. You’ve just scored some of the best early-game loot available. Now go put it to good use.
