LittleRocketLab: How to Repair Pico and Unlock Tier 2 Research

Published October 10, 2025 · Updated October 10, 2025

Stuck on the ‘Repairing Pico’ quest in LittleRocketLab? Our guide breaks down all the steps to unlock Tier 2 research, including how to craft and deliver the Gears, Bearings, and Copper Wires you need.

A Guide to the ‘Repairing Pico’ Quest and Unlocking Tier 2

Understanding the ‘Repairing Pico’ Quest

One of your first major goals in LittleRocketLab is to complete the “Repairing Pico” quest. When you check on Pico, you’ll see a list of components needed for the repair.

However, you’ll quickly notice that you don’t even have the blueprints for some of the required parts, like Heatsinks and Stators. To get those, you first need to help the local university by unlocking the next level of technology.

The Main Goal: Unlocking Tier 2 Research

The key to this entire questline is completing the “University Research: Unlock Tier 2” objective. This is your number one priority.

To complete this research, you need to deliver three types of components to the university:

  • Deliver 50 Gears
  • Deliver 25 Bearings
  • Deliver 40 Copper Wires

How to Deliver Items to the University

You can’t just carry these items to the university by hand. As the quest suggests, you need to automate the delivery process.

You must set up a Conveyor Belt that runs from your factory and feeds the required items directly into the red university drop-off box located on the sidewalk.

Crafting the Required Components

To get the 50 gears, 25 bearings, and 40 copper wires, you’ll need to set up a small production line using your basic buildings like the Furnace and the Assembler.

Crafting Copper Wires

These are typically one of the first components you can make. You’ll need to mine Copper Ore and then process it into Copper Ingots using a Furnace. Those ingots can then be turned into Copper Wires.

Crafting Gears and Bearings

Both Gears and Bearings are essential machine parts. You’ll likely craft both of these in an Assembler using Iron Plates, which you can get by smelting Iron Ore in a Furnace.

Setting Up Your Automation Line

The real challenge of this quest is designing a factory that can produce and deliver all three items. Here’s a basic game plan to get you started.

  1. Set up drills to mine Iron Ore and Copper Ore.
  2. Use Furnaces to smelt the ore into a steady supply of Iron Plates and Copper Ingots.
  3. Set up one Assembler to turn Copper Ingots into Copper Wires.
  4. Set up a second Assembler to turn Iron Plates into Gears.
  5. Set up a third Assembler to turn Iron Plates into Bearings.
  6. Finally, use Conveyor Belts to merge the outputs from these three assemblers into a single line that feeds directly into the university drop-off box.

What Happens After Unlocking Tier 2?

Once you’ve delivered all the required items, you’ll complete the research task and unlock Tier 2 technology.

This is a huge step! You’ll gain access to a bunch of new blueprints, including the ones you need to finally repair Pico: the Heatsink, the Stator, and the Small Motor. Now you can go back to your factory, craft these new items, and complete the “Repairing Pico” quest.

Unlocking Tier 2 is your first big automation challenge in LittleRocketLab. Plan your factory, get those conveyor belts running, and you’ll have Pico up and running in no time! GG.
