Ominous Photo Puzzle
- Location: Shimizu Residence
- What’s the Deal?: This story-critical puzzle is all about a room with four portraits. The solution is the same for your first playthrough, no matter the difficulty.
- The Solution:
- Flip Portrait #1 so it’s right-side up.
- Make sure Portrait #2 is already upright. Don’t touch it.
- Flip Portrait #3 so it’s right-side up.
- Find Hinako’s Picture Frame and place it in the empty spot on the wall. Now, for the twist: turn this final portrait upside down.
Scales Puzzle
- Location: Shimizu Residence
- What’s the Deal?: You’ll find a toy scale and 5 dolls. Your job is to balance the scales. The solution here is also the same for your first run on any difficulty.
- The Solution:
- Place the headless doll on the left scale.
- Place all four other dolls on the right scale. Easy peasy.
Rice Field Scarecrows Puzzle
- Location: Ebisugaoka
- What’s the Deal?: You’re in a foggy rice field with five groups of creepy scarecrows. You need to pull a needle out of the correct scarecrow in each group to be shown the path to the next. Nailing this without any mistakes will also snag you the Acupuncture Specialist achievement.
- The Solutions:Story Difficulty
- Group 1: Pull the needle from the scarecrow on the left holding a sickle.
- Group 2: Find the only scarecrow NOT holding a sickle. It’s in the center.
- Group 3: Find the scarecrow on the right with its head upside down.
- Group 4: Look for the one looking sideways with its arms stretched out.
- Group 5: Pick the scarecrow in the back that’s looking down like it’s being crucified.
- Group 1: Find the female scarecrow holding a sickle. She’s laughing and has a mask on the back of her head.
- Group 2: Pick the one in the middle with a sickle stuck in its back.
- Group 3: Find the one in the back with its head upside down. All the others are facing away from it.
- Group 4: It’s the upset-looking one on the right holding nothing.
- Group 5: Pick the one in the back that’s in a crucifixion pose with a sickle in its back.
- Group 1: Pull the needle from the scarecrow with its head turned upside down.
- Group 2: Find the one in the crucifixion pose with a sickle on the ground in front of it.
- Group 3: It’s the one with no sickle, standing behind another scarecrow that’s on the ground.
- Group 4: Find the one standing in the middle of the two scarecrows that are looking at each other.
- Group 5: Follow the direction that four scarecrows on the ground are pointing to find a solitary scarecrow. That’s your target.
Shrine Path Altar Puzzle
- Location: Shrine Path
- What’s the Deal?: You need to place five objects on an altar in the correct order to open the Temple Door. The logic is the same across difficulties, but the order changes.

- Back Row (Left to Right): Rat, Fish

Shrine Vault Puzzle
- Location: Shrine Path
- What’s the Deal?: You need to find three symbols to open the Shrine Vault Door. After you find the Celluloid Doll, your journal will give you clues. You have to find the Ema plates (wooden wishing plaques) that match the drawings in your journal, turn them over, and note the symbol on the back.

- Clue (Crane) -> Symbol is a circle cut by a horizontal line.
- Clue (Serpent) -> Symbol is a circle cut by a vertical line.
- Clue (Tortoise) -> Symbol is a snake with a downward arrow.
- Clue (Lightning) -> Symbol is a circle with two vertical lines inside.
- Clue (Decayed Tree) -> Symbol is a circle with a cross inside.
- Clue (Kudzu) -> Symbol is a square with a T in the bottom half.

My Room Puzzle
- Location: Shimizu Residence
- What’s the Deal?: You need to collect three crests (White Bird and Fox Plate, Scales Plate, Black Bird and Sword Plate) and place them in a door. This puzzle is the same on your first run, regardless of difficulty.
- The Solution:
- Left Slot: Place the Swords crest.
- Right Slot: Place the Fox crest.
- Top Slot: Place the Heavens crest.
- Bottom Slot: Place the Scales crest and rotate it.
Aoi Takeshi’s Locker
- Location: Ebisugaoka Middle School
- What’s the Deal?: An optional locker you can open. The code is found by deciphering documents.
- The Solution: The code is 401 on all difficulty levels.
Stairwell Puzzle
- Location: Ebisugaoka Middle School
- What’s the Deal?: A mandatory puzzle to find the key to the 2nd floor. The key’s location changes with difficulty.
- The Solutions:Story Difficulty: The key is in a locked desk drawer. You need the Hairpin to open it, which is in a basket inside the rabbit hutch in the courtyard (get there via the classroom window).Hard Difficulty: Go out the classroom window into the courtyard. The key is hidden in the field of blue flowers on the west side.Lost in the Fog Difficulty: Go out the window to the courtyard. The key is on the terrace outside, right next to some flower pots.
Secret Box Puzzle
- Location: Ebisugaoka Middle School
- What’s the Deal?: A complex, multi-phase box puzzle you have to solve to leave a classroom. This one is a real brain-burner.
- The Solutions:Story Difficulty
- Phase 1: Slide the bottom panel (cherry). Rotate the box. Slide the top panel (strawberry). Press confirm.
- Phase 2: Side 1: slide the 2nd and 3rd panels from the bottom (journals). Rotate. Side 2: slide the 2nd panel from the top (another journal). Press confirm.
- Phase 3: Side 1: don’t slide anything. Rotate. Side 2: slide the 2nd panel from the bottom (tree branch). Press confirm.
- Phase 1: Side 1: slide top-right, middle-left, bottom-right. Rotate. Side 2: slide top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right. Confirm.
- Phase 2: Side 1: slide top-right, middle-left, bottom-left. Rotate. Side 2: slide middle-right, bottom-right. Confirm.

- What’s the Deal?: A third optional locker in the Locker Room.

Mural Puzzle
- Location: Treasure Hall
- What’s the Deal?: You need to place three crests you find onto a large mural. The solution is the same for your first playthrough on any difficulty.
- The Solution:
- Fox Mask: Place it in the lower-left corner, on the group of 3 foxes.
- White Sparrow: Place it in the center of the mural, on the lantern being held by a fox.
- Black Sparrow: Place it on the back of the fox wearing a brown kimono.
Light Puzzle
- Location: Worship Hall
- What’s the Deal?: You have four statues (two Rabbit, two Fox) on two platforms. You need to rotate them to the correct positions.
- The Solutions:Story Difficulty: Rotate the statues on both platforms so that the fox and rabbit are facing each other.Hard Difficulty: Rotate the statues on both platforms so that the fox and rabbit are back-to-back.Lost in the Fog Difficulty:
- Left Platform: Rotate so the fox and rabbit are back-to-back.
- Right Platform: Rotate so both statues are facing left (the rabbit is looking at the fox’s back).
Memories Puzzle
- Location: Shu’s Prized Possessions
- What’s the Deal?: An easy puzzle where you just have to find items and place them on a stand. The only thing that changes with difficulty is how many items you need to find.
- The Solution: Find the items (like the Brainiac Hero Comic on Story difficulty) and place them on the empty stand in the central hall.
